Life pulls us in so many directions -taking care of others, tackling endless to-do lists, and handling all the unexpected things that pop up in life. If you’re anything like I used to be, you might feel guilty for even thinking about taking time for yourself. 

There’s always something more to do, right? But you can’t pour from an empty cup. Taking care of yourself isn’t selfish; it’s essential, not just for your mental well-being, but for your physical health too.

The Cost of Constant “Go Mode”

When we’re stuck in “go mode,” running on the kind of energy the world rewards like hustle, overdoing, and constant productivity-it takes a toll. Our bodies respond to stress by releasing cortisol, a hormone designed to help us deal with short-term challenges. 

But when stress becomes a way of life, those cortisol levels stay high, wreaking havoc on our bodies. Over time, this can lead to:

  • Fatigue and burnout.
  • Anxiety and emotional overwhelm.
  • Trouble sleeping or feeling rested.
  • Physical issues like weight gain, weakened immunity, or even chronic health conditions.

Staying in “doing” mode without balancing it with times to recharge will eventually wear you out mentally and emotionally and physically. Our bodies are equipped with 2 types of nervous systems on purpose.  It's fight and flight or rest and digest.  Too many women are stuck in fight and flight mode while forgetting to rest and digest.
